Brave Girl

Heaven gained one of the most beautiful souls I have ever met at 2:15 AM yesterday morning, it was a bittersweet day.
JoAnne Franzenburg was the definition of strength, courage and grace. If you had the pleasure of meeting her you will know exactly what I am talking about.
Last Spring I called to check on her and she was having a hard day, but she refused to sit in the darkness (even though she had every right to). She mentioned the word “tattoo” and off we went! She picked this beautiful butterfly tattoo, and we chose different colored ribbons for causes dear to our hearts. I wear my on my wrist and she placed hers on her back next to the word “fearless.” I am grateful for that day and all of the many others we shared.
When I entered into recovery years ago she gave me a beautiful keychain with the serenity prayer engraved on it. I have carried it with me every since, just as I will carry her in my heart always. JoAnne that prayer and friends like you are the reason I was able to graduate from college yesterday. One day at a time, dreams really do come true.
Thank you for being my sister in so many ways and thank you for all you brought this life. Though you are no longer with us here on this earth, YOU DID BEAT THIS. You refused to let it rob you of anything else. I love you and will miss you brave girl, rest in peace.
